Artist Biography

Ray Pelley

Ray Pelley received his degree in Fine Art from Illinois State University where he studied both painting and printmaking. After graduation he moved to Boston, Massachusetts where he worked as a graphic artist and began his work on a series of limited edition serigraphs.

On a visit to the Northwest, he was so inspired by the beauty of the area that he decided to move to Seattle, Washington. There he began selling his original serigraph prints at the Pike Place Market, as well as juried art shows and galleries throughout Washington State.

Eventually his artistic efforts turned to oil painting. "Oils allow for a wide variety of effects and styles. Always having been drawn to realism, oils allowed me to pursue a realistic image far exceeding the graphic nature of screen-printing. There is a lushness in both texture and color that oils provide, which, when combined with their ability to be manipulated, give a depth to the image that can rarely be achieved in other mediums."

Ray's current work focuses on photoreal still lifes of popular objects that define our current culture. He is currently represented by the Gunnar Nordstrom Gallery in Kirkland, Washington.
