A heavy column of enemy's infantry, about 10,000 strong, is moving from opposite our extreme left toward our right. This message from the lonely Union signalmen on little Round Top reported the counter-march of Confederate General James Longstreet's Corps on July 2, 1863 at Gettysburg. The discovery set in motion troop movements which would save the Union left flank-and perhaps the entire Union position-in this watershed battle.
