Scott Gustafson Puss In Boots
I like the storv of Puss in Boots a lot. I've read three versions of it, and there are several different great scenes in each-meeting the king, confronting a giant, etc. At the end of all three stories, despite the differences, Puss has become a very great perŽsonage. So I thought it would be fun to show him as the cat of the court, with an entourage that just sits around and enjoys how witty hi' is.
I did a lot of preliminary sketches with Puss looking at the viewer and everyone laughing, but it was coming off too smug. So I finally arrived at the idea of a milkmaid, which gave the image more of a focus and less of a smarty-cat quality. That's when it all started to come together.
