Robert Summers White Buffalo
The White Buffalo was one of this country's scarcest creatures. Actually an albino bison, the White Buffalo was thought by Indians to posses supernatural powers that were very reverently respected. Many tribes felt that a sighting was an omen of bad luck, yet the white man considered the same to be a wondrous work of nature. As buffalo herd dwindled during the nineteenth century, the White Buffalo lives on now almost entirely in legend and folklore.
