Owen J Gromme - Red Winged Blackbird
Even if there are still snow flurries in the air, we know it is spring once we see the first red-winged blackbird return from the south. The males arrive early, often before the last spring storms and stake out their territory. They like to show off, too, displaying their bright red and yellow shoulder coverts long before the female arrives on the scene. The male preen and puff out their colorful epaulets which so clearly distinguish them.
More than any other blackbird, the red wing blackbird personifies the marsh. He nests there, and, perched on the tip of a cattail, he makes it his business to oversee all that goes on. red-winged blackbirds have become numerous in some areas because of the diminished number of predators like hawks which had kept the blackbirds in balance in the past.
Red Winged Blackbird< is published in a edition of 500 prints. Each print is embossed with a detail from the painting to signify that it is a Gromme Master Print and that Own Gromme reviewed and approved the print before he hand signed it.
Red Winged Blackbird< is printed on the finest 100% rag, acid free, neutral pH paper from Rising Paper Company. The paper protecting the face of the print, as well as the envelope enclosing the print, is of the same archival nature.
