By early fall, a summer of melting has lifted the mantle of snow from the mountain peaks. Only patches remain - enough to feed a waterfall. But winter will surely return and so a party of Blackfeet set out on a hunt. The Blackfeet were the scourge of the mountain men until smallpox epidemic reduced their numbers and they became one of the weaker Indian nations. Thus, they never took part in the wars against the white man in the late 1800s. Instead, survival itself became their war. Even now, as they begin the hunt, clouds hang low on the mountains - a sign of the cold, wet weather ahead.
