Artist David Garibaldi discusses the inspiration for his art piece, Break Beat Fever:
'In the late 60s and early 70s, hip-hop DJs began using a new technique. The part of a funk or jazz song in which the music breaks to let the rhythm section play unaccompanied repeats several times in a row to create the rhythmic basis for hip=hop songs. As an infectious fever spread, B-Boys and B-Girls would hit the dance floor and let the beat take control. Eventually, the patten of breaks would become a foundation for pioneer and modern MC's. Break Beat Fever represents how a simple break beat helped create a revolution known as hip-hop, and inspire a new generation of millions around the world.'
