Artist Biography

Over decades of steadily growing recognition, Terry Frost became one of Britain's most prominent abstract artists. The forms in his art, prints and posters are simple. Although they bear no easy reference to figurative sources, they are rooted in the visible world; his colours are generally bright and exhilarating, often sparking off each other like electric charges.

His paintings have little or no pictorial depth. Instead they radiate energy outwards. When you walk into a room where there is a Frost on the wall, chances are that it will be the most dominant object. Its energy will come off that wall at you, exerting itself directly on the space you are in and on your sensibility. The simplicity of the forms, the lack of depth, and the radiance of colour, scale and energy are the principle keys to the meanings of Frost's art, prints and posters. There is nothing difficult about his work. The biggest difficulty is getting rid of the inhibitions that may prevent you from opening up to its messages.

His art, prints, poster and collages project a freedom and a joy of life, amounting often to sheer exuberance, but then joy of life and exuberance are the qualities that most characterize the man.
