Artist Biography

Deborah Chabrian

Deborah L. Chabrian always knew from a young age that she would be an artist. Starting at eleven years of age, she began winning awards for her art, prints and posters. Her talent blossomed through the encouragement of her art teachers and her work was recognized with numerous local and national awards (including Hallmark's National Gold Medal and Honor Prizes). A full scholarship took her from the small town of Barrington, Illinois, to New York City, where she studied at Parson's School of Design and in the studio of Burton Silverman.

Deborah's artistic recognition is far-reaching. Working in the challenging medium of watercolor, Deborah uses its painterly subtleties to create intricate patterns of light and color. She is a master of the changing emotions of light, illuminating her subjects to invoke a warm, unforgettable mood. In describing Deborah's art, prints and posters, Victoria magazine wrote: "It's little wonder that this Connecticut artist's paintings seem so true to life. As soon as she sees the perfect scene, she races with the changing light to capture moments both fleeting and real. It's the ordinary scene that becomes extraordinary.”

Deborah works from her studio in an 18th century farmhouse that she has lovingly restored with her husband/artist, Ed Martinez. Their home, which they share with their two children, has been showcased in Old House Interiors, American Home Style, and Victoria magazines. Deborah paints for private commission as well as for gallery shows and juried exhibitions. Deborah's art, prints and posters are displayed in numerous private and corporate collections in the United States and abroad.
