Artist Biography

Ansel Adams

"Shortly after our arrival in Yosemite, my parents presented me with my first camera, a Kodak box Brownie. After a few minutes of simple instructions, my camera and I went off to explore." -Ansel Adams on his first visit to Yosemite in 1916

Adams (1902-1984) never lost that sense of wonder that his first explorations instilled in him. He was one of the first to promote photography as an art form and today his art, prints, and posters are eagerly sought by a new generation of collectors

Adams became the official photographer of the Sierra Club and was commissioned by the US Department of the Interior to photograph all of the National Parks. He strongly believed that preservation of the wilderness was crucial and he spent much of his life promoting those efforts. His voice lives on through his body of art, prints and posters, urging us to preserve the environment.
