We all experience adversity throughout our lives making us feel as though we are in a figurative wilderness. The Bible says that our Savior, Jesus Christ, was both fully God and fully man and that we have a God who was, in all ways, tempted as we are. In striking contrast to the complexity of some of Ron DiCianni's previous works, this soulful and simple painting spectacularly captures the image of Christ in the wilderness. Tempted by the Devil, weary and worn, Jesus resisted and persevered. In the Wilderness presents a timeless statement that though we may be tempted and weary in this life, we have a divine model of how to persevere during times of struggle.

Artist's Note:
In this painting, I wanted the isolation of that time to come through to the viewer. It begs the questions, 'Did Jesus get weary? Was the temptation hard for Him> Could it be that He, the very Son of God, felt the pain of loneliness?' Please take this the right way... I sure hope He did because if He didn't, He wouldn't have understanding or sympathy for me when I feel like it's all too much to bear. Here's where He earned the Scripture that says, 'For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.' -- Hebrews 4:15
