about this piece
Montague Dawson The Gallant Mayflower
The Gallant Mayflower shows the ship that took the Pilgrims from a site near the Mayflower Steps in Plymouth, England, to Plymouth, Massachusetts. The Pilgrims were, in reality, English dissenters and, according to records, there were 102 passengers and a crew of almost 30.
The voyage took place in 1620 and the accolade of Gallant refers to the very gruelling 66 day voyage.
The Captain was Christopher Jones and the vessel eventually returned to England in 1623.
The Mayflower was used mostly as a cargo ship in the trade of goods (often wine) between England and France but also sailed, on occasions, to Norway, Germany and Spain. She had three masts which were square-rigged on the foremast and mainmast but was lateen-rigged on the mizzenmast.
Gouttelette
The gouttelette (pronounced goo-ta-let) print is the next stage along the evolutionary chain of digital print making. Derived from the French Word for droplet, gouttelette is an entirely exclusive new digital printing process. The combination of remarkable technological developments in the printing world combined with traditional artisan craftsman allows for the printing of artwork with the highest quality and fidelity to the original.
