Bluebills Visit Silver Lake, Minnesota, Centennial Painting by Les Kouba was commissioned by Gordon Schultz of the Silver Lake Sportsman's Club. Les Kouba's love for blue bills made it a natural. He couldn't resist taking on the assignment. He went out with a bunch of the local boys in a pontoon boat and took many different photographs of the Silver Lake skyline. The town had made changes in their skyline throughout the years. He took some of the old and some of the new and combined them.
HeI did this painting in watercolor using an unusual technique. He wanted it to appear as a colored etching, so he did a colored pen-and-ink drawing and painted it later. He was able to achieve a storybook, greeting card essence, which gave the painting a historic flavor. The painting has13 thirteen blue bill ducks.
