The setting for this painting is at the mouth of the Wenatchee River where it enters the Columbia in Washington State. Every winter, here, like in many other parts of the country, hundreds of geese winter along with other birds such as herons, swans, goldeneyes, mergansers, and kingfishers. Unfortunately, this setting has been turned into a riverfront park which has greatly reduced the bird's habitat. - Jeff Tift
