Marysia

Artist Biography

 Marysia

Marysia was born in the southern Polish city of Wadowice in 1956. She exhibited her talent at a young age when she graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Bielsko-Biala High School of Fine Arts. Upon graduation, Marysia moved to Warsaw and entered the Polish Academy of Fine Arts, where she majored in Graphic Arts with a special emphasis on painting and drawing.

Her early art experience was greatly impacted by association and study with two of Poland's outstanding artists, Henryk Stazewski and Eugeniuz Markowski, who imparted their skill with lines, light and color, as well as the energy and motivation necessary for art. She was also impressed with American artists such as Dutch-born Willem de Kooning, one of America's preeminent Abstract Expressionists.

After immigrating to the United States, Marysia's artistic focus changed from the portrayal of human figures to landscapes and nature forms, and increasingly incorporated light, color, and shapes in a continuous spiral of motion. She sought to resolve the intrinsic dichotomy between realistic and abstract art. "Through my own art, I seek to express my experience with human emotion, to portray that emotion with shadow and light. My paintings are personification, finding elements of nature in the human condition.”
