Wanda Mumm

Artist Biography

Wanda Mumm

Wanda Mumm combines her degree in art, natural ability and personal field observations to create art, prints and posters that have a wide appeal to the discriminating wildlife art enthusiast. Wanda spends as much time researching and composing her artwork as she does painting it. Although she uses many resources in her research, she relies on her extensive field studies gathered during her travels. The serenity portrayed in her work depicts wildlife from a naturalist viewpoint. Wanda believes that she will forever be a student of nature and art.

Since her first art show in 1978 along a Minnesota River bank, Wanda continues to develop her style and technique. She has gained national recognition for her birds and nature throughout the national show circuit. Wanda's publisher, Applejack Limited Editions, publishes and distributes her art prints and posters as well as manages her licensing activity. Wanda's recognition includes Artist of the Year for the states of Illinois, Missouri, and Oklahoma, winner of the 1989 Oklahoma Duck Stamp, as well as being selected as an artist for Pheasants Forever and the National Turkey Federation. Nature Discovery Press, National Wildlife Federation, and National Raptor Center have also commissioned her for work. She has won numerous awards and was the featured artist for several shows including the National Wildlife Show in Kansas City, Northern Wildlife Show in Lansing, MI, Prairie Skies Wildlife Show in North Dakota, and the Heritage Wildlife Art Show in Minneapolis and was the Guest Artist for the Northeastern Wildlife Art Expo in Providence R.I.

Wanda enjoys participating in workshops with other internationally known artists and was very pleased to work with Nancy Glazier, Robert Batemen, Alan Hunt, and John Seerey Lester. Wanda also has a firm belief in mentoring young artists and has developed a workshop geared to encourage students who may be considering careers in creating art, prints and posters. This college-accredited workshop is held annually at a ranch in Montana and provides a full week of painting, sculpture, and career development. Wanda will be expanding her teaching to include international workshops.
