Artist Biography

From his 19th century home in Georgia, Scott Duce has painted landscapes that highlight the gracious panoramas and intimate vignettes that are now signature for this artist. Duce's art, prints and posters reveal a fine tuned understanding of archetypical landscape reinterpreted in an uncompromisingly individual way.

Subtle ranges of color enclosing brilliant patches of light yield a dynamic, and at the same time ethereal, presence in his art, prints and posters. Dedicated to the universal rather than the particular, Duce's keen insight reinvigorates the tradition of landscape painting.

"My hope in these paintings is to create a metaphoric narrative suggested by relationships and circumstances filtered through memory. The landscape appears to be a cliché yet through contradictions developed by spatial arrangement, painting process, and mood, the specific reality of the cliché is relocated into a newly prescribed sense of beauty and time.”
