Artist Biography

Sandi Dahl

"Landscape paintings are my major focus, oftentimes they are intuitive landscapes of the mind, an emotional response to the land'. Searching for basic elements that convey the mood of the land, artist Sandi Dahl attempts to capture these essential elements in order to communicate the feeling of a space. Expounding upon these basic fundamentals of the landscape, a statement of simplicity and beauty is created in Dahl's pastel paintings making her art, prints and posters specific to a particular place. She strives to convey this sense of place at a fleeting moment in time.

Sandi Dahl grew up on a farm in North Dakota and has resided there most of her life. Several members of her family are artists and this family background played a role in her development as an artist of art, prints and posters herself.

Dahl is a graduate of the University of North Dakota and sites her most influential teachers as Wolf Kahn, Albert Handell and James Conway. She has received grants and commissions from both the Minnesota State Arts Board and the North Dakota Council on the Arts. Corporations such as the Radisson Hotel, Abbott-Northwestern Hospital, AT and T, Northrup Corp. and the University of North Dakota have collected her art, prints and posters.
