Richard Luce was born in Yonkers New York. Luce studied commercial art at Dutchess Community College. After college, he worked as an assistant art director for a magazine in New York. In 1981 Luce and his family moved to Kentucky.
Luce finds inspiration for his art, prints and posters in his Native American heritage. He uses Native American culture for both wisdom and images. Upon careful viewing hidden objects often emerge from his paintings to give new meaning.
