Porfirio Jr Salinas

Porfirio Salinas was born in Bastrop, Texas. Porfirio Salinas is a household name today in the arena of Texas painters. Salinas is one of the most popular artists that ever painted art, prints and posters in the State of Texas. As a youth, his family moved to San Antonio living only 2 miles from the Alamo. Salinas, mostly self-taught, studied briefly with Jose Arpa, Robert Wood and Helen Slimp. According to the Slimp family, Salinas as a young boy would knock on Slimp's door asking for art instruction. Helen Slimp also helped Salinas design his artistic signature.

Salinas was a natural born artist, with a meticulous attention to detail, subject matter and a soft touch. He developed his own style of art, prints and posters that is still being copied today.

Salinas is best known for his Texas Hill Country Landscapes and one of the best bluebonnet painters during the first half of the 20th century. He additionally painted art, prints and posters of bull-fighters and scenes of Mexico.
