Artist Biography

Nancy Kaestner

Born in California, Nancy now makes her home in the Sierra Foothills. Natural surroundings and the ever-changing seasons make possible an atmosphere where creativity thrives. Spring and summer garden flowers are ready models for her art, prints and posters, while fall colors and the forest in winter give promise of an abundance of subjects to paint. "Translating onto paper the image of a delicate flower, the richness of its colors and the way it seems to rejoice in being alive is a constant challenge. For me there is a joy in painting subjects found in nature. Capturing a reflection of what the creator has set before us brings me joy.'

Concentrating primarily on the use of watercolor as her medium, Nancy has achieved depth, crisp clarity and chosen floral and small animal subjects for her art, prints and posters as they can be rendered in great detail. The artist's interest in photography is helpful in capturing and composing future ideas. "I could spend hours in and rolls of film on a flower garden.”

Nancy is often asked where she has studied painting. Her reply is that her school has been her studio where, years of painting have succeeded in producing the style and quality of her art, prints and posters. She finds that the 17th through the 19th century botanical painters have had a great influence on her work. These old masters have become silent teachers. Inspired by them, she continues to perfect her skills. Nancy's painting has been featured in many exhibitions and can be found in numerous private collections throughout the world and in select fine galleries in the United States.
