Marti Somers

A Native Californian, Marti Somers received her fine arts degree at the University of Hawaii, and she often returns, with her husband, to the islands of Hawaii for inspiration in her art, prints and posters. She is currently a partner in Artefact Design, a Palo Alto graphic design firm where she works both as an illustrator and as a designer.

Marti's style is distinguished by a layering of images and language that create the rich canvases for which she is known. Her art, prints and posters have been commissioned by Stanford University, the University of Nortre Dame, and the University of Utah, and by many companies in the Silicon Valley for corporate brochures, annual reports and magazines. Several series of paintings have been published as gift cards, including a recent series, Courtyards of the Westin, designed for the Westin Palo Alto.

Marti's art, prints and posters have been featured in many design and illustration publications, including the Communication Arts Illustration Annual. Her painted poems, 37° No. latitude, is a collaboration with her poet sister, Robin Somers. Her current work, Strong Women and Entersecciones was inspired by a recent trip with her Artefact partners to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.
