Myung Sik Kim was born in Kodegi, a small town near Seoul, South Korea in 1949. Due to gradual modernization, Kodegi has disappeared over time, but it made a lasting impression on Kim. He describes his origins as such, "East, where the sun rises, has been the beginning of the day, and is a symbol of purity in my mind.' After receiving both his Bachelors and Masters Degree in Fine Art at Choong-Ang University in Seoul, he has enjoyed a successful career as a "painter's painter.'
Using luscious layers of rich colors, Kim's work is often centered on elements of nature and home. According to Kim, "it is where we are from originally and where we will go eventually.” His abstract paintings reveal masterful brushwork and harmonious color.
Kim has a strong presence in Asia and has exhibited internationally in solo and group shows. He is a professor at Dong-A University in Pusan, South Korea and divides his time between South Korea and New York.
