John Milan

John Milan was born and raised happily in the quiet, sun-drenched community of Hilo on the big Island of Hawaii. When he was a teenager and the family moved to Honolulu, he felt equally at home with big nightlife, just one of the contradictions of this young passionate painter. John Milan has always painted, everything from murals to abstracts to the landscape art, prints and posters that he is now known for.

He works in cubism as comfortably as impressionism; in line-dominant and color dominant modes as well. His travels throughout the U .S. and in Greece, and his hobbies of pottery, photography and gardening, give John afresh eye for depth and definition in his art, prints and posters.

After studying at the Honolulu Academy of Arts and the Douglas Anderson School of Art and Design in Jacksonville, Florida, John accepted a scholarship to the Savannah College of Art and Design, from which he transferred to the University of Georgia in Athens to study painting for four years. Milan has exhibited his art, prints and posters in galleries (and nightclubs) at home in Hawaii and the southeast US, as well as at the New York Art Expo and in Greece. His largest mural, 50 feet long, was done for AT&T in Hawaii.
