Artist Biography

J B Hall

JB Hall was born in Springfield, Illinois in 1963 and relocated several times in the upper Great Lakes region before settling in the Chicago area. His artistic interests began in high school, where an art teacher once reprimanded him for making his weavings too tight. He bonded with a fellow classmate and together they shared a love for making unnecessary things that had a practical sensibility. He earned a degree in Geology, with a heavy background in Art History, at Beloit College in Wisconsin. With no immediate direction in mind, he moved to New Hampshire to work in construction for a short period before heading to warmer weather in Arizona. Hall began work in an art studio frame shop and quickly began an apprenticeship under a Master Printmaker.

Hall embraced his tutelage and developed his own style with photography. His years of relocation as an adolescent and the diverse students he met in college shaped his versatile nature and gave him the ability to view the same subject from a different perspective. He used his view of an individual's perspective as the foundation of his statement, "Truth is Perception.” He is not afraid to fail at an experience, trusting that success comes from trial and error, "Each piece or chapter is an incomplete exercise and can be reshaped and pounded into a success.”

JB, his wife and young son continue to reside in Arizona where an endless list of home projects, family outings and good eating dominate the social calendar.
