Ellen Stouffer

Ellen Stouffer's paintings include a potpourri of images that are warm, whimsical, sensitive, and spiritual. Beautiful to look at and comforting to experience, Ellen's unique style of painting incorporates biblical verses with stories of faith, love, and God's interest in the everyday aspects of our lives. She is internationally recognized for her Country Sampler and Noah's Ark Calendars, as well as the lovely cards, note papers, collectibles, and other art, prints and posters produced by The Lang Companies.

In 1968, Ellen married William P. Stouffer and thus joined a Quaker family whose 275 years of rich American heritage includes generations of farmers, artists, and clockmakers. Bill, also an artist, has transformed the fields that surround their home into lush gardens and garden rooms. He has also planted hundreds of trees that form a backdrop for these gardens and thus provides a resting place for many varieties of birds and animals. Ellen Stouffer has a B.A. and an M.S. degree in fine arts with a teaching endorsement in art. She taught school for 25 years but recently retired to focus her energies on her own art, prints and posters. In a recent calendar biography, Ellen summarized her feeling about her life as an artist: "Every day seems better, filled with more hope, more joy, and a deeper appreciation for family, friends, calendars, and the miraculous gifts from God."

To know Ellen Stouffer is to experience that which she describes as "gossamer wings" - something experienced in her love for the simple beauty that springs forth in the flowers of her garden, the dainty ornaments she selects for her Christmas tree, or the tiny and delicate images she places in her art, prints and posters. Faces of children reflect her own childlike nature, her sense of wonder at all that is beautiful, and her acceptance of people and the goodness within them. Ellen has been called a messenger, proclaiming through her art and her faith that God calls upon each of us to serve and love one another.
