Donna Young

Donna Young began painting at the age of four and has been painting professionally since 1978. She was educated formally as a graphic illustrator at the Burnley School of Professional Art in Seattle, Washington. Over the years, she refined her skills as a contemporary artist and utilized her talents in painting ceramics and creating graphic illustrations. She mainly concentrates on landscapes in the Northwest region, which she portrays in a very vivid and lively manner.

Young's style was influenced by such classic contemporary realists as Andrew Wyeth, whose works from the 1940s depict focal points in the landscape and cause the eye to move fluidly around the painting. She was also inspired by Richard Schmid, evidenced in her transitions of color and contrast. She has the ability to absorb everything from sight to smell, atmosphere to earth, then transcend these perceptions from head to hand and from hand to canvas to recreate her vision onto canvas.

Young has found inspiration in the quiet serenity of the mountains and rivers of the Northwest. She states, "I believe that the art of painting, and the painting itself, should convey a feeling of serene satisfaction and inner harmony.”
