Artist Biography

Craig Bone

It comes as no surprise that Craig is currently considered a mercurial talent in the genre of ultra-realism. Viewing Bone's art, prints and posters is tantamount to looking at Africa through a window. A sportsman, conservationist and self-taught artist, he was born and continues to live in rural Zimbabwe residing close to the teeming Zambezi Valley, which offers adventure and subjects for his work.

He is a frequent and fearless visitor to the primal bush and the not-so-tame national parks of southern Africa, including those in Zimbabwe, Botswana, Zambia, Malawi, Namibia and Mozambique. He has also traveled extensively in India and the Far East. This is one artist whose adventures could fill a novel. He has hidden from lions in a "boma” for days and nights, waiting to get the right sketch or photograph; been charged by rogue bull elephant; and hidden behind trees from testy rhinos. The savage reality of some of the escapades is captured in his art, prints and posters.

Bone's works reflect the solitary experience and the undiluted essence of the artist confronting untamed wildlife. Craig is driven to artistic perfection and at the same time is possessed with an uncanny ability to make his art, prints and posters come alive with motion, style, feeling and depth.
