Cheryl Martin

Artist Biography

Cheryl Martin was born in Minnesota and now resides in Arizona. Martin has been able to capture and reflect the essence of various environments from the Midwest to the West Coast through her own personal experiences. Her soul yearned for paint and the excitement it brought at an early age, so her mother gave her an artist's smock and allowed her to paint with oils at the young age of five. Martin would spend hours on end painting, and this childhood pasttime turned into a career. Cheryl studied art and graphic design at Nebraska Wesleyan University.

Martin moved to Arizona in 1989 where the landscapes and the rugged beauty of the desert provide a continuous source of inspiration for many of her paintings. She loves to explore the outdoors and these adventures are magnificently translated through her brush, paint and easel.

"My paintings are a result of an intuitive process that develops from the combination of layers, color, shape and texture. I am fascinated by layers of transparent color peeking out beneath other layers. My paintings symbolize a curiosity of the delicate connections of colors and shapes in the natural world."

Using a layering process that she has developed over the years, Martin is able to capture the fascination of heaven outside. Martin's scope of art is not limited, and plunges into the depths of abstract. Her abstracts show the gravity of life and how it is constantly changing. Through her creations she teaches us life lessons. Martin will tell you, "Life is not how it begins, but the process of how it comes together. Let your soul create your destination.”
