Artist Biography

Carroll Jones

Carroll Jones has never had to leave the northeast to find inspiration for art, prints and posters. His career began New Jersey, and an early aptitude for graphite portraiture stopped people in their tracks. Strikingly realistic, Carroll's drawings were a lot like himself: quiet, low keyed and compelling. Through the 1970s he explored a variety of still lifes, interiorscapes, and architectural drawings that sometimes incorporated the human form with which he was so thoroughly familiar.

No matter what the subject, Carroll's quality remains first rate. He does gorgeous things with graphite. The requisite realism that is so necessary for capturing a likeness was extended and developed into an ethereal, magic realism that focused on selective parts of an architectural composition. His art, prints and posters seem to create objects out of light and dark, bringing them out of the whiteness of the page with startling realism then allowing them to mysteriously dissolve into the void.

Carroll's special brand of dedication and talent has given him the authority to make a living independently of the many galleries that would like to represent him. All original sales are handled directly by the artist himself. It's difficult to buy an original oil because they are usually sold before they are completed. He has only created about 50 oils over the last twenty years, and has extended himself into art, prints and posters in order to make his work available to a greater number of people.
