Alexander Millar

Artist Biography

Back to Art, Prints & Posters Collection
Alexander Millar

Born in 1960 into the small mining community of Springside on the west coast of Scotland, Alexandar Millar spent much of his childhood simply sitting in the atmospheric steam filled stations of British Rail (where his father worked). Even today, he describes this setting to be one of the most romantic, nostalgic places to be, and says that many of his most romantic art, prints and posters are set within that very atmosphere.

Alexander Millar left school in 1976 and ended up in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, a town with "its fair share of characters locally known as Gadgies," which fed him much inspiration later on in life in his works. After a number of different jobs, he finally settled down in 1988 to become a professional artist. Self-taught, he spent many years developing his own style in art and often turns to images remembered from his childhood for his art, prints and posters.

In the past couple of years, Alexander Millar has witnessed a number of sell out exhibitions and increasing amounts of people have been taking notice of the solitary figures he creates in his art, prints and posters. Millar's paintings have been exhibited in forums such as the Mall Galleries in London.
