Philip Plisson

Born in January, 1947, Philip was raised along the banks of the Loire River in the Beauce and Sologne regions. Philip learned to sail at the age of seven aboard a 'Moth' before switching over to dinghies: Mousses, 420 and 505, were a true passion for him. But it was most likely his grandmother who initiated Philip to photography when she offered him a camera, an Ultra-fex, for his first Communion. In the summer of 1956, aboard his Punt in the La Trinite River, this young man began taking his first shots of yachts.

In 1991, with the help of the "Pays de France” Foundation prize and the Regional Tourism Committee of Brittany, he threw himself into the project of making art, prints and posters of the Breton Maritime Heritage: 80,000 photos, 10,000 nautical miles, 120 hours in the helicopter and 45,000 kilometers by road. With all this accumulated experience, Philip created the company Merpool in 1992 with his friend Gilles martin-Raget, in order to ensure collective coverage of the America Cup, the Route du Rhum and the Vendée Globe Challenge.

In 1998, Philip and Marie-Brigitte and two their friends create the Editions Pêcheur d'Images. Today, the company employs over 30 people with a turnover of more than 52 million French Francs. Over 500,000 art, prints and posters are sent out every year throughout 500 outlets in France and about 20 countries in the world.
