Heywood Hardy

Born in England in 1843, Heywood Hardy was an excellent painter of scenes and events from everyday life. He was especially interested in anatomical drawings of horses and dogs. He spent most of his life in East Preston and Bristol, where he became famous for his sporting scene art, prints and posters. His formal training began in London and was continued in studios in Antwerp and Paris.

His peers admired his proficiency in his watercolor. Hardy began exhibiting in London in 1861, and his art, prints and posters are in many museums throughout Great Britain including the Victoria and Albert Museum in Bristol.

His hunting scenes are considered to be among the best ever painted and continue to be very popular.
