Artist Biography

Andrew Wyeth

Reknowned American artist Andrew Wyeth is known as a "painter for the people". The youngest of famed illustrator N.C. Wyeth's five children, he attended school only until the 3rd grade. An illness left him frail, and he was tutored at home from then on.

Wyeth was often left alone to wander the woods around Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania and the family's summer home in Maine. His love for nature shines through in his art, prints and posters, complex compositions that appear simple at first glance.

The artist's art, prints and posters have been exhibited and purchased by museums world-wide. Wyeth was the first artist to be honored with the Congressional Gold Medal. He celebrated his 80th birthday in 1987, and continues to paint.
