Born in Barcelona, Spain in 1955, Alicia Grau began her artistic training at a young age, attending La Escuela de Artes y Oficios in Barcelona. Since then, Grau has succeeded in creating an artistic trend among the artists of her generation and her work is now spread throughout the world.
Her work is carefully considered and constructed, with successive layers of color; each contributing to the overall masterful composition. Josep Mèlich has said of Grau, "...Her style is unmistakable: though she is essentially a painter, she bases her work on an exquisite drawing technique, which is a fundamental need for any figurative artist. Then, there is the use of pigments, through which the compact solidity of her textures causes her canvases to take on a palpable sensation of volume, thanks to the priming, the scraping and the thick layers of paints she uses...”
Grau has shown her paintings in both group and solo shows, many in Barcelona galleries. Her art has also brought her a number of awards and international recognition. She divides her time between her hometown and Florence, Italy.
